Cheapest utility suppliers over last 8 months

Options
Hello, i am a new user abd would be interested to know if there is a website or helpline where I can find out the cheapest Gas & Electric supplier over last 8 moths. We moved to a brand new house in July 2008 and have not yet had any bills!!!!. I am assuming I could switch to a supplier of my choice and was hoping I could some how find out who would be the cheapest.
Any advice apprecaited.

No one person can tell you who is cheaper as it depends on region/postcodes.

    See here:

However when people want to consider changing supplier, they gather usage details from previous bills - but this will be tricky for you as you don't have any (yet).

You need to get in touch with your current supplier and get on top of readings and bills then take it from there.

Use your consumption so far as a guide to giving you a fairly accurate monthly useage.

Input that info into a comparison website, and see what companies come out cheapest.

Then switch to your choice (check and see if there are any giving cashback via quidco, as the cashback is sometimes well worthwhile).

There is an article by MSE Martin on switching:

    Welcome to the forum.

There is no answer to the question you pose - and in any case 'past performance is no indication of future trends' as the 'health warnings' state.

    It depends on:
    Where you live.
How much of each fuel you use.
    How you pay.

Unless you are a very low user, the various internet tariffs have been consistently cheaper.

Your best bet is to enter 20,500kWh gas & 3,300kWh electricity into several of the comparison websites and see what comes up.

You can enter various combinations of gas and electricity consumption to get a pattern.

The only problem with using the 20,500 and 3,300 'average' figure is that, an incredibly minute %tage of the GBP will be using those figures. It doesn't stop the energy companies cynically optimising their tariffs to come out 'at their best' on those figures, though.
