Well here we are.. 12 months on from walking into Brighton court to hand over those bits of paper and i'm still alive, I haven't been locked up or persecuted or shunned or had parts amputated or put in the stocks and had tomatoes thrown at me or.. or.. or any of the other things you could get led to believe happens when you declare yourself bankrupt!

In fact, if you ask anyone who knows me i'm probably the happiest i've been in years.. more relaxed, more confident, quite simply just able to enjoy myself again.

There's been some downs though so it wasn't all plain sailing, had an issue with my IPA which after an initial scare was all sorted out amicably.

It's so nice to hear the phone ring and answer it knowing that the worst it's going to be is someone trying to sell you something... to open post knowing it's not threatening me with my worst nightmares if I don't phone this 0870 number immediately!

So... was it worth it? Was it worth the "stigma", the knowing looks, the head shaking etc? Was it?? Damn right it was!!

I have a future now.. i'm saving for my holiday in May, i'm planning some things for later in the year .. I enjoy going out with my friends and not have to worry about which credit card to withdraw cash from as i don't get paid for 2 weeks!

I do still have to pay my IPA for a couple of years so until that's gone i'm not totally free but paying £186 a month when I used to be paying nearly £1000 on debts is not a concern and I don't resent having to pay some back... I did spend it in the first place after all!

Anyway... I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support of a lot of people on this site, I'm not going to list them as i'd forget one or two and feel awful but you know who you are and all I can say is THANKYOU .. it's such a warm fuzzy feeling knowing there are people out there who are genuinely prepared to help without thought of personal gain .. :A

Take care and good luck to all of you just starting on this journey. It may be a struggle but the light does get closer

Thank you for sharing this - it's really an inspiration to newbies to the site like myself who are worried about going through bankruptcy

    Oh and Congratulations!!!
