How much does a claim affect renewal premium

Hi

I am thinking about claiming on my contents ins (with Swinton) for my son's laptop (he was mugged). I spoke to them yesterday and we are covered. The laptop is only 3 months old and he paid nearly £500 for it. excess is £50. Will this affect my premium next year? and if so does anyone have any idea by how much? I shall ask Swinton themselves before I sanction the claim, but would like other peoples experience of this first.
Thanks.

A claim usually affects future premiums for some time.

Do some on line virtual quotes with and without the claim to see what difference it makes to the premiums.

When I was in this situation with car insurance, I did what Quentin said.
I sued confused.com and it was very easy to do one quote with 0 claims and then go back and edit the same quote (no need to re-enter everything) and add 1 claim.
Then you can directly see the differences.

Proabably your premium with rise and don't forget it might be higher next year and the year after that so don't just factor in one years rise.
