Sorry if I sound thick and the answer is probably very obvious but still I am stuck. We use tiscali broadband(no probs up to now) on main computer but son wants to be able to access from his computer in bedroom.(not at same time as us, so same connection but at different times). He has been given a bt voyager modem but I can't get the laptop to dial up using the bt modem rather than the modem provided with tiscali. I have installed both on the computer but now I am stuck.I am very new to all this broadband and am not really sure how it works, not like dialup where you just tell computer what number to dial! Laptop is XP. Thanks for any advice received.

I'm not very clear on exactly what you're talking about, but if you mean what I think you mean...
You don't have to dial-up to broadband at all, it's an always-on service. You need to change your internet options, like this:
Click Start, then control panel.
if you're in classic view, click internet options. If you're in category view, first click network and internet connections, then click internet options.
Click the connections tab at the top.
Delete anything in the dialup connections box.
Click the setup box.
Click connect to internet, then next.
Click set up my connection manually, then next.
Click connect using a broadband connection that is always on, then next.
as far as I know, you then click finish, but if it tells you to do anything else, then do so.
If this doesn't help, please reply and give as much info as possible.0 -
if you bought a wireless router you could both use it at the same time (see wireless sticky thread)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

we are also with the above service provider and i think they mean they have to click on icon to get online. i always thought when the computer was switched on it connected automatically with out any clicking on but found that one must always click on with Tiscali. Is something wrong with our set up?my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0

Sorry for not explaining properly, I'm not very good at this and I am not a very techie person. I have icon on laptop for tiscali b/b , but want to use the new voyager modem to connect, not the speedtouch supplied with tiscali. I have loaded drivers for voyager aswell but can't get laptop to use voyager modem. How do I get thhe laptop to use other modem to connect other than the one supplied? Thanks0

You need to create a new network connection for your voyager modem.
Follow the steps here and when you get to step 6, give this network connection a different name i.e. Tiscali Voyager for use with this modem.

Followed the steps as directed, but the setup wizard misses out step 5 'select a device' even though voyager is setup and ready to use.All it finds is the internal modem in the laptop. Its all going out of the window shortly!0

Sounds like you have not installed the drivers correctly for the voyager modem. Try looking in Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manger, and highlight modems. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I have uninstalled it, the reinstalled it, still not showing under modems. Is it because it is in USB socket. The speedtouch that I installed originally doesn't show either but when I plug it in I can use it. Sorry, very confused, might just try and buy another speedtouch.0

I would try uninstalling it, then with the voyager disconnected install it's drivers. Then when you plug it in, it should show up. You could also look where I said before and check for any yellow exclamation marks (errors) in the USB section. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I installed with it disconnected then when I plugged it in it recognised it and said device was installed and ready for use. I had tried usb section there are no errors either. The words banging head and brick wall come to mind!0
