Access To Learning Fund Rejected!!!!!

Options
Hi there.
Ive just been refused Access to Learning Fund, which is really annoying because I genuinely need it!!

Im going to reapply, but im not sure which areas I under-played, but I really need this or I wont be able to continue in university. My costs are going to be going up even more in the next academic year.

Could anyone advise me on what areas the place most weight on? I want to tell the truth completely in it, which is good, considering I need evidence for eveything.

I was wondering if anyone knew how the system worked and could tell me what I need to say.

Thanks, post or PM me if you have any ideas.

Richard

Why are you annoyed rather than worried? Have you had all of the student loans/ grants/ overdrafts you are entitled to? Do you have part-time work? Try completing a Statement of Affairs and posting on the DFW board for ideas on how to spend less.

I don't think you're unique. There was an article in the Scotsman last week and basically lots of unis simply don't have any more hardship money to give, the financial set up that most students had for the last few years has failed for whatever reason (cut back hours/redundancy/parents no longer able to contribute) and the unis can't cope with the demand for cash.

Some unis in the article stated that they were even looking at academic performance to narrow down who to give money to.

My advice is to seek cash from elsewhere, will the bank extend your over draft? Do your parents have money you could borrow? Can you take on hours at work or get another job?

I dont have a job, Ive been looking since september. But when im in a city with 50,000 students, its not easy.
Ive taken the max overdraft, and unfortunately my mother and father are both unemployed due to illness.

How many CVs have you handed out purely on spec? Have you had someone more experienced critically appraise your CV and covering letter?

You don't mention your student loan or grant - have you applied for these?

Covering letter, do you use one? More students should mean more shops, more pubs and bars, more takeaways. So more student jobs to go round. Are you getting interviews but no job, or just no interest?

If you get a full loan and maintenance grant, why can't you live on this? Is your rent very high? Entire families are living on £4k a year after rent/ mortgage. :T
