one day high.... next day low....

oh, egg and mbna really know how to bring a girl back down to earth with a bang..... so im back to sick stomache and sad times. have agreed another reduced payment plan with egg for 3 months. as for mbna... i have to call them later to do that - hoping they will - the interest is absolutely crippling.

need better news today to cheer me up.

    how everyne else?

  • Hi mrscmr

Good luck with MBNA, I have one (was A&L) and the interest this month is estimated at £116, the amount I'm paying off every month I would much rather be putting into a savings account, I'll never get out of debt with all the interest. Haven't rung up to see if they can give me a better deal, do they do that. I have 7 cards and I am amazed at the interest each month must be over £250 a month.

OH has this 'great' idea (he thinks it's great, I don't), that when we remortgage in June that he will add my credit card debt to the mortgage, now I know that is a bit no no, he won't have it though he says he doesn't want debt hanging over us.

I have an endowment that I took out when I bought my house back in 1996, I sold it in 2002 and moved in with OH, I made £50k profit but all that went when I paid off my credit cards and when I gave up work when expecting DD1 I had to fall back on my savings. I am thinking of cashing in the endowment early (although it's linked to our mortgage at the moment but OH wants to do a Repayment only mortgage). We will be getting our FA in in the next few months so will ask about cashing it in early as it has 13 years left to run at £57.04 a month and I could pay that towards my debt.

They should give children lessons at school about debt and avoiding it and advising never to touch credit cards with a barge pole.

Anyway, the Euromillions is an estimated £85 million this Friday so if I win the Jackpot I'll send some your way. I did win last week but only got 3 numbers which was £11.60 and that paid towards DD1 and 2's ballet outfits.

    thanks ladies...

well i have a theory... to date i have always tried, when i need something from people to be nice, polite and friendly. i have found that that there is no point if i am rude, angry or negative. this has worked in that i have acheived reduced payments etc without doing dmp officially and i can self manage.

it is hard cos i really want to shout at them "how the hell can u charge me that? dont u understand i will be 185 years old before i have finished paying u back!!!!!" aaagggrrrrr

but for now i am mrs 'nice on the phone' cmr!

  • Glad you got reduced payments, definitely pays to be nice.

I hate the credit cards that charge so much interest, and then your minimum payment is the interest plus £5, like my MBNA credit card so I'm only paying £5 a month off what I owe, this is the card that I make my overpayments to. I LOVE my Barclaycard as they give me 6.9% until paid off, the minimum payment is more each month but my interest is only about £45 or something and my minimum payment is about £185 so I'm paying more off.
