We need a 7+ seater, help please.
Hello everyone, we're in the market for a new (second) car and as I've just produced baby number 5 (between us) we need at least 7 seats. This is all good because i'm a musician and it helps to be able to get the drum kit into a car rather than having to drive a van everywhere.
Ok, so we can spend up to £20,000 cash but i'd much rather get something a year old and cheaper. I've had a look at a VW transporter which was ok and a Hyundai i800 which is cool because it has 8 seats but it is a bit boxy, but it is Japanese and as i currently drive a Rav4 I like that. My rav is a proper little work horse and touch wood it has never in its 6 years given me a minute of trouble.
In all honestly though, my car knowledge starts and stops at watching the odd episode of top gear and working out how much I can fit in the boot.
Any ideas? We don't really need it until September when I start a new job if that makes any difference (I seem to remember buying around september is a good time). But we're looking around now so we can spend time getting a good deal on whatever we decide on.
I'd love your opinions please.

I would definitely look at the i800. If anything the i800 is curvier and less boxier than the Transporter. Also the i800 has a 5 year warranty and I'm not convinced that the VW is that reliable.
i800 on broadspeed.com lists at £19,580 and is on offer there for £17,797The man without a signature.0 -
Aren't Hyundai Korean?.....0

What about a Trajet? They have 7 seats and the waranty. I have one and I am a childminder it is reliable, comfortable ideal for kids.0

The big ugly SSangyong thing.... I forget its name now, it very spacious for a 7 seater and well within budget. Alternatively I would look at a Vito or VW Transporter 2nd hand, or even the Caddy - there is a new Caddy in the commercial range as a 7 seater.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

What about something like:
http://www.haynesford.co.uk/vehicles/used_commercial/search/Ford_Tourneo_4074916/?makeId=264&modelId=148&vehicletypeid=3
£18.8K (with VAT) will get you a 2008 Ford Tourneo (with a spare seat just in case!)
Or is it too boxy?
I think it looks pretty smart though.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Don't forget most insurers will not insure an 8 seater, we have an Elgrand (lovely car
) and had to go to a small special insuance company.

A friend of mine has a 7 seater VW car...I can't remember the model name. Anyhow, I drove it recently and I loved it, and we are considering looking at the 5seater model we liked it so much. Seats down it would easily take drums in it.0

Actually that looks ok too, hubby loves ford, I swear if his old transit had turned up to the church in a white dress he'd of married the thing instead of me. I freecycled it when he was at work... stupid thing never started in the cold and the day I had to push it to get it going was the straw that broke the wife's back.:A

Thanks everyone for the ideas they are all really helpful. I'm going to book a few test drives and see what I like, but you have given me some more to look at which is great.:A
