Hi guys first thing first HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY
Now down to business. I could do with some advice regarding Freeview boxes. Let me explain where I’m coming from.
I live in Northern Ireland and am capable of receiving television broadcasts from the Republic of Ireland (RTE); but to do so requires a separate aerial from UK based TV stations.
Today I had my aerials upgraded and had a new RTE aerial installed and now receive RTE via an analogue signal. However my aerial installer told me that there was a new generation of set top boxes that were mpg4 capable and that with one of those I would be able to receive the RTE signal digitally. I think he said that these boxes were just making their appearance, but I stand to be corrected on that statement.
So can anyone recommend a freeview set top box that is mpg4 capable? If the cost was not to high I would also consider buying a PVR if it was mpg4 capable and could receive the digital RTE signal.
If there is anyone from the North of Ireland reading this then I would especially appreciate your input.

HD freeview boxes can receive mp4 signals.
We just get RTÉ on Sky.0 -
No, a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) has a hard drive in it so you can record programmes on it.0

You can only currently get freesat mpeg4 or h.264 boxes, either freesat SD, HD or freesat+ which is the pvr. Although freeview h.264 boxes are due at end of year I believe0
