Quick question on redundancy

Say for example, you started work in 2000 (April) and I was 20 years old and you were made redundant in January 2009 (27 years old)- my DOB 18/06/81, technically how many weeks notice do they need to have given? I was under the impression it would be 8 years in my case but I have been told 6.5 weeks only, is this correct?

Assuming that you meant 8 weeks rather than years, I'd agree with you - the statutary minimum notice period is one week per full year worked, so 8 weeks in your case.
There's a link here that says the same (see the 'Redundancy notice periods' section nearthe bottom of the page)
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/Redundancy/DG_100298320 -
Notice due per http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?r.l1=1073858787&r.l3=1074038949&r.lc=en&type=RESOURCES&itemId=1073792628&r.l2=1073876974&r.s=sc
seems to be 8 weeks,
but redundancy payment per http://www.berr.gov.uk/cgi-bin/er_feb07_reconner.pl
is 6.5 weeks.0 -
so which one is correct?0

i think you would only get half a weeks redundancy pay for being 20/21
Older than that up to 41 years of age it is one week, older than that it is
one and a half weekmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
