... Altinkum in Bodrum, Turkey? I've found a reasonably inexpensive holiday there, but have no idea what it's like! Also, has anyone been to Halkidiki, or the Algarve - are there any nice areas to stay in / dodgy areas to avoid?
Sorry to ask this all in one post! But any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks very much,
Allie

Halkidiki is very nice, been to Pefkohouri. But because it is close to ex Yugoslavia you get a lot of 'Balkan' holidaymakers. This does tend to keep the prices down. You would probably fly in to Thessalonika airport, then it is about an hour transfer time. In the summer months it can take longer due to all the Greeks travelling to their weekend homes in Halkidiki.
Halkidiki is basically an area, comprising of three peninsulas spread out like fingers. Unspoilt, relatively quiet, one 'finger' is religious territory where there are no hotels, cars or villages, just monasteries etc.
A lot less comercialised than the islands like Corfu or Rhodes.
Have very pelasant memories of a week ther about 8 years ago.
Of course, since then it could all have changed and full of bars, strip joints and night clubs! If so could be time to go again, ha!

altinkum..i went ther last yr..was nice. it is split inot a town like place with many shops bars and restaurants, some traditional some englishy type places..then there is what the all the 'old part' which is where our hotel was, kinda cobbled streets and little shops and cafes. lots of kareoke bars!! we enjoyed it the beaches are nice, theres a few smaller beaches and we found one that was v quiet we had it to ourselves! my oh loves fishing and the water was soooo clear you could feed the fish with bread and they would jump outta the water for it! became my fave pastime! cept the bread was so yummy and fresh i was eating it too! theres a harbour and lotrs of boats there, they were building it up to be a bit more modern last yr wen we were there (no building work going on though....confusing! maye they do it out of season)
every1 we met loved the place, you do get hassle come into my shop etc but they are ok if you say no thankyou.
it is also a turkish hol destination which can be a bit strange but makes it less 'brits abroad' depends what you like (we prefered it) it wasnt as cheap as your rep will tell you, we were paying £3 fopr a vodka and coke, till we asked for turkish voddy and then it was about £1.50 meals for 2 with drinks were aorund £15 (which is cheap bu ppl will tell you you will pay much less)
have a turkish bath cos they are amazing.haggle everything..go to the market trip if you actually wanna buy sumthing cos it is cheap (5handbags for a fiver!) but it is a bit in your face. very very busy. gte the dolmus for about 50p to werever you are travelling to, tell the man as u get on wer u wanna go.
i would reccommend altinkum. i have soem photos on my comp if you waan see the beaches etc pm me. we paid £250 for 2weeks b and b last sept. all accomodation is basic but clean. bfast was olives and cheese though! LOL0 -
