***fiji / Tahiti / French polynesia= any deals or advice????***

This may be a long shot as it seems to be one of the most expensive places to go on holiday!!!

Has anybody out there got any experiences of fiji / Tahiti / French polynesia??

Im trying to plan a 3 week break in Aug next year,

I know that no prices are out now, but has anybody had any good deals for any of the areas- and if so, which companies????

we are looking at a virgin round the world ticket, taking in hong kong / NZ,
Pacific, then round to LA , or LV.

I know its going to cost a bomb, but any advice would be good, as im not wanting to stay in luxury for that amount of flying!!

help if you can

cheers
JH

Ask\search at V-Flyer for Virgin flights and info.

Also look at Flyertalk for info.

Maybe Thorntree will provide some info

I go to the cook islands and fiji at the back end of this year though my sis flys out to fiji today and i paid 1,111.70 for a RTW ticket with stops in India, Sinagpour, OZ, New Zeland, Fiji, Cook Islands, LA and the philippians.

I booked via http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/specialoffers/greatescapade.jsp I know you can go to Tahiti and (kind of part of) French polynesia as i was going to until i founf\d out how much it is to travel / eat / sleep / drink in these places, it maybe worth booking a package. My sis is doing a simular route though via china and hers was cheaper!

  • Fiji is very nice but I preferred Raratonga. Its beautiful if you get chance. I believe Tahiti is expensive which is why we gave it a miss. ANZ do Raratonga, Fiji and Hawaii too which is well worth a stop.
  • the travel section of todays telegraph has an article about tahiti

    i know tahiti is expensive,
It is basically £150 a room per night ROOM ONLY,

it seems at the moment the best flight would be virgin round the world option, but at the moment i would be only paying £150 a night if it was all meals and drinks- which i cant find anywhere.

The prices and deals on american wesbites are better, and include meals and free nights.

It looks like an amazing part of the world, and i desperately want to see it - but not at £150 a night ROOM ONLY!!!

im not worried about hotels in any other country before or after, as i know that i can get it cheap on https://www.asiarooms.com, but even they have no deals for the french polynesia!!!

  • I did a round the world trip 2 years ago, and stopped in Tahiti.
However, I also booked another flight to Bora Bora.
If your going that far out, Bora Bora is a must!! DO NOT missout.
It is the most awesome place on this planet.
Be sure to go diving with the sharks as well.

As i big fan of the lonely planet now globe trekker tv shows if you wantch one on bora bora it cost him $600 (thats us) a night though that was all inclusive and they saide it cheaper to book a package there. Thats my last stop Raratonga i have xmas and new years there though will go to other islands as well within the cook islands. I have been told fiji the main town nidi is rubbish though if you get onto the other island then you will have a great time. Try travelmood as when i did RTW they sorted me some great deals for hotels and transfers plus they booked my RTW package.
  • My husband and I went to Fiji about 3 years ago - we met up with his brother and girlfriend who were on a RTW trip at the time. They booked our accomodation out there and we stayed in some lush and and some not-so-lush places, for not very much money. You'll get better deals if you go direct to the places you want to stay.

Generally, Fiji is very cheap but OH's brother and girlfriend also did Tahiti and Cook Islands before we met them. Tahiti is extremely expensive - they actually paid to change their flights to leave early as it was eating up so much of their travelling budget to stay there - one example they gave was £6 for a French stick!!! But on a better note, they loved the Cook Islands and would go back.

And you will get the most fantastic tan out there!

Oh yes, Nadi, the capital of Fiji is a bit duff although there are some good shops there - the islands are definitely better. We stayed on a resort in Plantation Island and it was gorgeous!! Wherever you stay you MUST book somewhere with AC or you will die as it is so humid there!
