Buying a House and Changing Jobs at the same time

Hi all

A couple of months of go I was given a mortgage approval from my bank to get my first apartment which I hope to have moved into by mid July. However I've just seen a job advertised which I'm really interested in and was wondering what problems changing jobs right now would bring? I hope to keep the same level of salary but I can't say for sure what I would be offered.

Also if this is not a good idea to do right now, how long should I wait after moving in?

Thanks

Void

I started a new job in the february and offered on a house within days. I had 18 years in the previous job, and was moving to a very solid company. That was a couple of years ago, so not sure if things have tightened up since.

  • It might affect your mortgage application if you apply whilst with the current employer and they state you are leaving for another company. Equally when you start at the new company they may inform the lender you are in your first 3 months probation period, which could delay the mortgage approval.

One option would be to secure the new job, then apply for the mortgage on a new property for the new job location. After the mortgage has been approved you can give notice to your current employer .... mind you it will be quite tight to juggle the timings for this!

The safest option would be to apply for the new job, rent short term whilst finding the right place to live, then apply for your mortgage after a few months in the new job.
