Help with Scanner useage please

i have an epson cx3200 multi machine and so far have only used the scanner to scan pictures

however what i would like to do is to scan all the recipes i've pulled out of magazines, printed off the internet etc and then cut and paste that into into my living cookbook

i have OCR (think that's right) basically i know it does the text recognition thing, in fact the text on some of my images is clean and crisp however those are saved as jpg's so i obviously can't cut and paste from that

so, how would i go about saving it in a format that allows me to cut and paste... with the living cookbook i can cut and paste any text into a box then highlight say the ingredients then click'ingredients' and it puts it in that spot in the recipe, i can then use this program for meal planning and cupboard inventory etc so you can see why i'd like to get these all in as quickly and easily as possible!

anyway, i just don't know HOW to do it... any help would be much appreciated :T

Snap! I have the same printer as you. ;)

I think I've read you're post right: you are looking at scanning something in from an image or book and then having it OCR'd into a Word Document which you can then cut-and-paste from?

If the above is correct then: All you have to do is go into the Epson tool that has all the options like Scan, Send Fax, Copy etc. and select the option of OCR or it may appear as Optical Character Recognition. Then there are all the options that appear (can't remember the order now) I think it scans it, then you select the program to OCR to then it outputs the OCR'd file and you can cut and paste from it.

    I hope this helps :)

that's brilliant tigermatt, thanks so much!

it will save me soooooo much time, having to manually type out about 500 recipes is a bit too much!

    cheers

i tried this last night but when it asked if i wanted all the pages in one document i said yes

it then asked if i wanted them in paragraph order or let the word processor decide

i chose paragraph assuming it would put the pages in the order i scanned them (i was scanning an article from a magazine)

i got gobbedly gook! any ideas?

also what is TWAIN and what does 'make ADF' mean?
