Advice please!!!

I have just finished my 1st year being self employed and have paid my Tax bill (by 31st Jan!!) and have a nice lump sum saved over.
Unfortunaley this lump sum is going to be needed by the lovely tax man later on in the Year (Boo Hiss ) so in fact is not mine to do what i want with.
I therefore want to invest this money somewhere to get a better return than just in the bank account and thinking of an ISA etc
The fund is currently approx £10k (could pay off all my debts with this!!!!!)
I would welcome any advice on what people think is the best option for this and where I should invest.
Thanks for your help in advance

Instead of the Halifax you could put it in A&L as they pay 5.2% at the moment.0
