Paint peeling off ceiling

Hi all,

I have a problem.
I've tried to paint my ceiling but as I roll on the paint, the paint chips and comes right off the wall, sticking to my roller.

What can I do? Any advice? Should I put a primer before painting?

Thx

Caro

  • I would mix some emulsion with some PVA glue and put it on with a brush and not a roller.
I’m no expert but that’s what I would do, the glue should seal the loose paint from falling.
If that doesn’t work you may have to sand the ceiling and then mix some watered down emulsion with PVA glue to seal the paint for the next layers of paint.
Hopefully a painter might pass by here and help you out, my bro is a pro painter but he’s not hereat the mo but i think thats what he would do.
Flaking paint means it hasn’t bonded to the ceiling properly and you may have to sand it down to get a bite for the new paint, sorry couldn’t be more helpful.
I'm not poor i'm just skint
  • Im a decorator.
Do as above says but first give it a good sanding, dust and hoover, then mix up some Unibond super pva with water ( 30% water), do not add paint, brush onto ceiling 2 coats then once dry paint as normal.

    Hi paullwill8
Thanks for your advice. This morning I went to buy some Unibond Super PVA according to your instructions. However there is no mention on the tin as to how long it takes for the primer to dry, any idea?

The longer the better but I would say at least 6 hrs between coats.
