Defence Vetted - seeking employment - advice wanted

Options
I am currently in the process of leaving the military and was wondering if anyone could help me in my search for a new career. I have been Defence Vetted and have worked in the Telecomms industry within the military therefore wish to use these factors to my advantage. Which websites or companies can anyone suggest ??

I'm also seeking employment in the Merseyside area

Many thanks

There are alot of ex forces focused recruiting organisations. Your regional resettlement centre or unit library will have details.

    jobsoracle.com is an example

Look out for the 'Quest' booklet in your area, if not, it should be in the learning centre etc.

    Try www.securityclearedjobs.com

I know a few who have got jobs through this site.
  • Get a profile up on LinkedIn. Include pertinent keywords e.g. CCNA or anything employers are looking for. Plenty of headhunters use it. When you say telecomms can you be more specific? PM me if you like.

...I go a job recruiting for BAES and ended up getting dragged in back to work with aircraft again!

As an ex-recruiter, I would remind anyone pushing out their CV to ensure they detail that they are Security Cleared - big tick! The Defence Vetting Agency are a law unto themselves when it comes to clearing people. The DVA can take 6 weeks to process an applicant (my worst case was 18 weeks for a chap I once worked with around Specials - so it can be a major problem). Like most non-commercial companies, DVA always seemed to go on block leave over the summer months, oblivous of their "customers" by leaving minimum staffing and long delays.

If you're shopping for a job (like via a Monster posting), just put everything into your CV - I used to search electronically for candidates. My search templates always started with the various combinations of "Security/Cleared/Clearance/Vetted"... and so on. I would then add the specific words to refine the template to the need.

If you're sending in your CV for a specific job, take the time to tailor your CV to match the requirements as stated. Good Luck!
