i have been looking into travelling to glasgow and have looked into car hire/coach/train and flying.
why is it that to fly it costs so much?
the cheapest quote i got from manchester to glasgow was 179.00 one way for 2 adults and a 4 year old,but travelling abroad costs about the same obvioulsy depending on where your going,i.e spain.
anybody know why?or where to get a cheaper quote?

Well, this depends on dates and time. For £175 you can have return tickets for all of you. For example, March 27-31 with BMI Baby:
2 Adult at GBP 11.00 GBP22.00
1 Child (2-11) at GBP 11.00 GBP11.00
applicable taxes, passenger service charge and insurance surcharge GBP141.60 total cost of booking GBP174.600
