Wine Investment

Hello there
First time for me so I hope I'm doing this right
Has anyone ever heard of Dunbar Fine Wine or Soorat Singh ? I was supposed to have bought a case of investment wine from him, sent him a cheque and have never heard from him since
Does anyone know his whereabouts or have any advice for attempting to track him down ?

Many thanks - Jason

  • Sorry to hear this Jason, I trust it's just an honest error - e.g. the delivery company?

The Guardian - Our mercurial Mr. Singh

"...."You have to be very careful and well advised," says Soorat Singh, a Welshman who runs Dunbar Fine Wines in Scotland. "There are a lot of scoundrels out there :o....."

The Guardian will have a contact number and would want to get on the case if there was a problem, having mentioned him to their readers.

Alternatively, and far simpler, Google threw up

Or has the company closed down?

    Has the cheque been cashed?
  • Unfortunately, yes the cheque was cashed .....
  • Thanks for theGuardian tip. I'm definitely going to follow that up
  • Does Dunbar Fine Wine answer its phones?
  • Oops me thinks it is time to write it off as a bad experience.
Does not look like you will get your wine or your money back!
  • Do please post a concluding reply, jason.

Otherwise an innocent man's name could be besmirched across the nation.

Maybe the delivery company ran off with it. Or a helpful neighbour signed for it and couldn't resist the temptation.
  • no, they don't answer the phone

i will certainly post a conclusion when i have one which i fear could be a while .....

i don't believe my original post implied either innocence or guilt, i'm just trying to track him down and find out what's going on
  • Thanks for touching base.

I wasn't implying that you were unjustly accusing anyone.

Just that the thread needs be brought to a proper conclusion in due course.

Good luck with your research :). When I posted the Guardian info I thought I was going OTT, but it now looks like it is not the case.

    Another good contact is tony.hetherington@mailonsunday.com

    He doesn't take prisoners.
  • Well, I know that some of you are awaiting a conclusion to this story but unfortunately I am unable to offer one at this stage. However, there has been one significant development in that I contacted the police in relation to this matter. They visited Mr Soorat Singh's business address and were able to speak to him personally. Apparently, he appeared to be in perfectly good health and promised to contact me. This was over a week ago now and he still has not done so. I am going to write to him, giving him a month's notice to return my money to me. After that month, if I still haven't heard from him, I will investigate the possibility of beginning legal proceedings against him and indeed, whether it is in fact worthwhile doing so

    WARNING:

In the meantime, I would strongly advise anyone NOT to deal with SOORAT SINGH or DUNBAR FINE WINES and certainly not to send him/them any money
