Just been made redundant after 11 years :(

I was employed to work 27.5 hours a week as a job share with another colleague. 3 years ago the other colleague left and I covered both roles. This meant my hours increased from 27.5 a week to 47.5
I earn over the maximum £350 a week and have done for the last 3 years but my redundancy payment was calculated on my contract of 27.5 hours
The result is a difference of £1300 to my detriment.
Is this correct? I have spoken to the Union and she thinks it should be based on what my weekly earnings have been for the last 6 months regardless of the contract being unchanged. (The additional hours were put through each week as overtime)
In effect they have made 2 jobs redundant (mine and the other job sharers) but only paid one redundancy payment...as I did both jobs
I am hoping the union can sort this out as that makes a big difference to my future. It means I can start my redundancy debt free

has some info on working out th pay rate for redundancy.
I think you can argue that even though you were paid as overtime they probably required you to work it so you are entitled.
Don't forget the 11 weeks notice as well.0 -

The Union have got invloved and are keen to get this sorted in my favour, I trust the Union as this particular person has a reputation for getting things done. She thinks I am entitled to the higher amount as the company have expected me to work 47.5 hours a week since 2005 when the job sharer left. I have been happy to work them as I was considering full time work at that point anyway, so it seemed a simple solution.
Unfortunatelty no contract was signed and this has resulted in me receiving a redundancy package of 27.5 hours a weeks pay and not 47.5. A very large difference when you take the 11 weeks notice as well into the equasion.
I have faith in the Union, and will let you know the outcome.
Debt_free_chick - Whilst I have nothing in writing from my employer about this change to my hours, I do have my pay slips and attendance records which prove the hours I have been working.

Probably pointing out that benifts should be based o nthe "normal" week.
If you are part time and do overtime upto "normal hours" this should increase some benifits that are paid pro rata.
The important ones are holiday and company pension contributions/benifits that should be based on actual hours works not contracted.
If your holidays were pro ratad down to part time levels you may be due some singnificant back holiday and the same with othe benifits.

I have some positive news, the Union have been in touch and told me my renumeration is being recalculated as Head Office were working solely on the contracted salary figure passed to them by my boss!
She said a new pack will be in the post in the next couple of days!
If anyone isnt in a Union I strongly recommend joining one, this is the second time they have helped me out big time.
