    Wow, I originally replied to this thread back in February, and as an update:

    I did get a new job, and my income is now £16K
    At a 1.7 exchange rate (for easier comparison)
    My debt today: £10,412.51

    At today's exchange rate of 1.82: £9,710.798

    I buy Sainsbury's basics, brown bag it, don't have cable, keep a spending diary and am just an all around miser but IT'S WORKING!

    I'm an American living in Oxford using the exchange rate to my advantage. (As of 4 Oct 2006: 1USD=1.88GBP)

    Debts at highest November 2004: $29,464.51 _pale_

    26 June 2006: Down to $17,701.27
    Private Student Loan: $3,073.61 (7.83%)
    US Federal Student Loan: $14,627.66 (5.3%)

    4 October 2006: Down to $11,622.66
    Private Student Loan: PAID IN FULL!
    US Federal Student Loan: $11,622.66 (5.38%)

    Debt Free Date: 27 September 2007, my 25th birthday!

    Salary dropped from 34k to 25k due to my leaving job (illness)

    Debt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 107k :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:
    (most due to house fire and under insured)

    Just goes to show that banks are too willing to lend on not a lot of salary
