Adding boyfriend to car insurance? No claims bonus question.

I am currently about to renew my car insurance and am thinking of adding my boyfriend to my policy.
I have 6 years no claims bonus, boyfriend is 30 but has very little practical experience at driving (although passed his test 10+ years ago).
If I add him and he has an accident, do I lose my no claims bonus, or does the accident stay under his name and only affect his insurance in future? (don't want to get a nasty surprise and an argument if the worst happens!)
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

If a "fault" claim is made against the policy, then your ncb is affected no matter who was driving at the time.

As you are near renewal time you could pay to protect your NCB then if he (or you) has a fault accident your NCB won't be affected. Most cos allow 2-3 claims in a set time period before you lose any NCB if you protect them.

......but you still have to declare the accident, so whilst your NCB is unaffected the premim can still rise (my own experience is that one accident does not affect it but that might depend on circumstances).

Your NCD might be protected, but the premium will go up anyway because of the accident.. If you didnt product it would obviously go up even more.

Not necessaily (as per my previous post).
I have a fault accident in June 2008.
Before claiming (I knew the victim) I checked insurance quotes, both with zero accidents and with 1 FAULT claim.
    There was no difference.

Now this may be down to a number of factors e.g. age, driving experience etc. so I am not saying this will be the case for everyone.
But I am saying that it's not a given that it will go up with 1 accident.
MORE than 1 is definitely not considered back luck or coincidence, so expect to be affected by that.

    I agree with Lisyloo.

My hubby protects his NCB and I had a fault claim in 2006. The renewal price went up...but then renewals usually do....I shopped around and by changing co's hubby paid less after the accident than he had the previous year.
