DIY Green Roofs

Options
I just came across this great site where you can find all the information you need to construct your own green roof.

www.thegreenroofcentre.co.uk

www.greenroofstoday.co.uk

Has anyone got any tips on how to construct one?

If you want to be really green you need a brown roof.

Seriously, though, they are fairly easy to construct. You need to be extra carful to ensure that the waterproofing layer is sound as you will have to remove the "green" layers if you ever need to repair the waterproofing. On the positive side, green roofs are supposed to last longer due to the fact that they protect the waterproofing layer from UV rays and temperature fluctuations.

Good point. If weight is a problem (and it usually is on existing structures) then it is probably best to go for a sedum roof as these are relatively lightweight.
