Broken flask

We bought a thermos flask from Asda in October. I've been using it to make yoghurt. Last week I decanted the yoghurt into a container and used a teaspoon in the flask to get some of the excess off the side and as the teaspoon just touched the side the glass exploded:eek: . My DH took it back to Asda and the SA said, as it was past 28 days, it couldn't be taken back (as a broken item) or replaced:confused:. I thought that if an item wasn't fit for purpose it could be returned and replaced or refunded but do you think that, as I had been using it for yoghurt and put a teaspoon in, that would be classed as not using it for what it was manufactured for IYSWIM? TIA.

I'd say it probably has been too long for you to claim it was defective.

You said yourself that you had touched it with a spoon and it exploded, well it would, it is vacuumed in between the shells. The inner 'glass' part is really fragile and any contact with a hard object would break it. Its meant only to be touched by liquid. Really, for the sake of around a fiver i would just go and buy a new one and move on.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Well I didn't know that so thank you. Now that I know that I shall move on and shall avoid touching the inner of a flask with anything other than liquid in the future.

Yes, the last one we bought (from Asda again lol) broke when it fell off a trolley (no surprise). Not having much luck with them. Think I'll stick to using the half litre one which we've had for years.

PS Glad your son is okay.

Yes we've had them in the past but they have cups which get manky after a while, the stainless steel outer separates from the plastic inner. That's why we went for an old fashioned Thermos flask.;)

Oh dear......sorry to hear of your other flask as well.......if its the same one like we bought, like bluish colour large one, I don't think it takes much for them to shatter, but yeah good idea, stick to the half litre one........:D ;) X
