I want to thank you all for your help! We bought a Fiat Multipla.

I really like how roomy it is inside, and it feels pretty peppy, too. I like having the safe front seat option - I can put my 4yo in the middle front for the nursery school run, and fit his booster in the back when we go on trips as a family.

I also like that it readily holds SIX people, which will make a difference when my father visits. The seven-seaters got too big and expensive and you have to give up the boot for all seven seats. If we were rich, we'd get a Grand Espace, but we're not rich, so never mind. :)

Anyway, I'm so glad I had this board to ask for help - I really didn't know where to start looking. :)

This is interesting - thank you to everyone.

I'm in need of a car that can seat two childseats, plus one adult in the back and two adults in the front. We've looked at the Honda FRV and the Mitsubishi Outlander - but I'm concerned at the amount of road tax we'd be paying. Any one got any suggestions on car models?
    Thanks
    Emma

I have a Honda FRV. I think it is a great family car. As you know three seats in the front and three in the back, with both front a back middle seats sliding forward and back. This is great for long journies, for example, as my wife can sit in the back with the kids and slide the seat back to give her decent leg room.

Of course being a Honda it is ultra reliable.

Have a look at multimac (just google it). Fifth gear tested it the other month, said it worked well.

That is really interesting! I didn't see your post until I bought a car, already. I don't think we would have bought it, though... we needed to get rid of one of our two cars, anyway, the cost of that travel system is about half of what we paid for an entire used car, and it would also have made the car seat I just bought last week redundant.

But, if we had a nice car and didn't want to upgrade, that would really be worth looking into. Very impressive.
