Barclays PINsentry warning.

Grrrr word of warning, if you loose your PIN sentry reader they charge you £6 to replace it  I didn't want the annoying think in the first place and now they have everyone to ransom if you lose it because without it you can't access your account or pay bills.
I can understand them charging if you repeatedly lose it, but not for the first time. Anyone can misplace something. (actually we had a big clean out this weekend and I have a horrible feeling it's been thrown away by mistake)
I know £6 isn't a massive amount of money but I doubt it costs Barclays that much to make and send them out to you.

Good Afternoon,
You can still access your bank account by answering the security questions:rolleyes: The only thing you are unable to do is transfer money without a PINsentry:T0 -
Is that correct? I know you can get access to your accounts for 14 days by answering the security questions, but I thought that once those 14 days were up you had to log in via PinSentry. Or can you just re-answer the security questions for another 14 days access? You can still access your bank account by answering the security questions
Also, you used to be able to ask to be downgraded back to non PINSentry (you had to call the Coventry helpdesk for this because India didn't know how to do it). Obviously they may have removed this facility, and of course the next time you try and make a payment online to a non-recognised payee you'll be upgraded back to PinSentry.0 -
Open a Nationwide or Natwest current account, they will then send you a card reader, which, as far as I am aware, you can use with your Barclays account.0

Good idea rb10, and yes you are correct. Card readers functionality that most banks offer will work with any bank cards. This is what wikipedia said.0 -
I didn't realise you could use other banks card readers, that's really useful to know. Thanks.
I've already ordered the replacement reader, I just resent the fact that if I want to use the bank account in the way it was set up to be used I am being forced to pay for a new reader
Pretty much all you can do without one is look at your balance, which is pretty useless.0 -

Is that true across different manufacturers? While RBS group and Nationwide use Xiring, the Barclays one is a different shape, and has no manufacturer name. Also doesn't have the menu button, which ZXiring use for contract etc.0 -

Yes, you can keep entering your card details (without using the Pinsentry), and create another password which will last you another 14 days. This is a godsend because I would hate to use the Pinsentry to log in a look at my details.0 -

I do the same, and my current password is due to expire in a couple of days. I thought I would be locked out of my account totally until the new card reader arrived. 0 -
