How long do CCJ's and Defaults REALLY stay on cred rep?...

Hiya,
I dont want this to sound like a dumb question but I have heard different things from different people!
Some people say that CCJ's stay on your credit report until 6 years from the date they were issued and others say that they stay there until the date of the most recent activity (ie. CCJ was issued in July 2003 and were settled Sept 2007 so therefore will stay on file until Sept 2013).
Also, is it the same amount of time for defaults too?...
Can anyone put the record straight please as I am dying to know?......

6 years from when they were issued - if they are not removed then you should contact the credit reference agency to have them taken off. Same with defaults.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
