P.S Gizmo, i just assumed(and hope) that social sevices had already kinda checked us out when they first rang to say they knew that we had the lad....have no faith in the system as it is,but can only hope that they cared enough to check we were not on their books as child beaters or worse.....
They should be doing an assessment - the yare legally obliged to do so and as he has aspergers you need all the extra help you can get. Contact the disabled childrens team as he is automatically a child in need. Did he have a social worker before? Did his mum? You are taking on an awful lot with an aspergers child and you need and are entitled to support including respite care ands long term plans.
Also I suggest you see your welfare rights officer for claiming things like DLA etc for him.
You may already have joined this http://www.nas.org.uk/asperger but it is a great support and source of information.
My very best wishes you are doing an amazing thing.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
i was his unofficial respite care since he was a babe in arms, and he has grown up with my 2 lads...we are family in every sense but blood, his actual social worker been on leave with stress for as long as i can remember, think they return long enough to keep from being medical retired then on the sick again...seems the payout worth being on the sick.....thanks for all the advice everyone, finger's crossed that the Estate is now sorted....and we can work on the things that really matter.....money is the root of all evil that im sure of now....0

I'd have thought that made it all rather straightforward. You're not next of kin, they don't want to deal with you, they have the death certificate, what more's to be done?British gas wont even deal with me as in not next of kin,
LOVE OF money is the root of all evil. Not the stuff itself.money is the root of all evil that im sure of now....
Sounds like you are doing a grand job, and you've had lots of good advice. Another possible source of support and advocacy for this lad might be Connexions - they can vary, but AFAIK he should have a personal adviser through school / college.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
