I take it you know how to burn an ISO file to CD (if not use imgburn which is a free program) and make sure your computer is set to boot from CD in the BIOS.0

If you can wait, Ubuntu are releasing their next version 9.04 at the end of April.
Try googling "psychocats ubuntu" it's a very good place to start if you're new to Ubuntu and Linux.
Post back here if you have any problems, I'm sure we can all help.
I'm a BIG fan of Ubuntu, been using it for last 4 years.
Good luck with the install!0 -
Just remember to factor in the cost of the software if buying a new computer. When my old one died a family member checked out what I used and warned me that most of it wouldn't run on Vista. I got another XP machine as a result. To have gone with Vista would have meant new scanner, printer and replacing with upgrades my favourite word processing and other programmes.
Something which I now doubly am happy with given the talk about Windows 7.0 -
Hi
However life is getting more and more difficult because of not being able to download any updates. The latest one is that I have lost messenger and cant reinstall.
K.
Not having the awful Messenger may well be the best thing that's happened to your PC.

Wow - I've not seen that mentioned in...er....years!
My guess is the OP is referring to windows live messenger...a chat program...rather than the messenger service exploit which was patched shortly after the release of XP
