user account password

help i have forgot how do you get back in forgot it on my laptop

  • i have forgot my password for my laptop not used it a while,so am stuck at log in user accounts my hint is no good iether what do i do next

    There's always the safe mode workaround if there's no administrator password, failing that, you'll have to go to some lengths to get back into the files, before a clean install of the OS.

    Use the bootdisk password resetting tool here:

    http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

    Although originally for NT it works on all more recent Win variants including Vista

    i couldnt get it to work & reset the admin account passwords on 2 admin accounts.


    btw, i was running xp pro (which doesnt even have sp1 installed) in a VM when i tried this.

    Yes, it works with any account, including the admin account. I've used it myself successfully with XP Pro on an ex-company PC where the company IT dept wouldn't tell me the admin password.

    I suppose you could say that it exposes Windows security, but if you have access to a PC so that you can boot it from a CD, you can do pretty much anything to it anyway!
