Health Insurance

I currently pay near £70 a month for private health insurance through Norwich Union...I have been thinking whether anyone else would be cheaper...I have 3 pre exisiting conditions but Bupa said a whle back that once 2 years had passed without claim at least one of these conditions would be covered...

Has anyone had experience of getting cheaper medical insurance than this with pre exisiting conditions?

Yes you probably can. Depending on your age and a few other factors.

I used to work for Norwich Union selling PMI (private medical insurance).

Did you join on 422 Moratorium?

A 422 moratorium is (the type that Norwich union and most other medical providers still sell) is: Any pre existing medical condition that you had 5 years prior to the start date of your policy will not be covered until you go for 2 years advice treatment and symptom free on that condition from the start date of the policy. If you go two years free that condition then becomes eligible to be claimed upon. If you have advice treatment or symptoms within a two year period then the clock goes back to zero and the two years start again until you have completed a two year period.

Does that ring a bell? Norwich union healthcare provide you with a policy schedule every year that you are a member. It will say on that schedule which form of underwritting you joined on i.e. Moratorium (or continued Moratorium if you switched from another provider i.e. Bupa) OR FMU (Full Medical Underwritting)? You could always call your insurer to make sure.

I have some very good suggestions of alternative schemes. I would need to ask you more questions first though. Some of them could be a bit personal i.e. the nature of your medical conditions, your age etc I have sent you a personal message.

One thing is clear and that is you should seek good advice on this from someone in the know. i.e. A broker who specialises in PMI and of course is FSA regulated.
