Cheap Two Way Radios

Has anyone bought these ?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5530733.htm

What are they like ?

Cost £14.95 a pair, but if you buy 2 pairs you get a £10 discount, and if you buy 3 pairs, you get a £20 discount.

1 pair - £14.95
2 pairs - £19.90
3 pairs - £24.85 .... approx £8.30 for a pair

Note: the special offer description at the bottom of page suggests that this discount is only applicable for the more expensive models, but it also works on this model .....

Good find. I've reserved my 3. I think I've bought enough bargains
now to keep us going for the next 3 Christmasses!!

  • Good find and a very good price.

Just worth noting that these do not have CTCSS privacy codes. So may be more susceptible to interference.

I can't find the 180 on Binatones website ( even in the archive section )

    http://www.binatonetelecom.com/Products.asp?Pnav=Products&Snav=22&HeadCategory=4

Nearest I could find is the 150 which takes 3 AAA batteries per handset.

Is this something made exclusively for Argos ?

Just bought these. Be prepared for a long transaction as they show up full price on the quickpay machines. I went to CS who tried to override but the till would only allow a £10 discount not the £20 it advertises in the catalogue. Anyway, it eventually required a call to head office and a manual override to get the discount.
They look good though! well pleased....
  • I just got these. Great present for nephew.
I tried at the quickpay but it comes up at full price with a note that it needs a manual adjustment, so I went to the checkout. Was served by a manager (suit+tie) and it came out at £35ish! I queried this and he said that I was right and that the till said it should have £20 off but had only taken off £10. After he quickly checked the main cat. he did a manual adjustment.
    Thanks AlanS
A bargain is only a bargain if you intended on buying it in the first place!!!

just picked my 3 sets up ... had the same problem as everyone else.

QuickPay was showing the full price and at the till it was showing £10 off. I showed him the page in the catalogue which said £20 off. Cashier had to get a manager who did a price override, so got them for £24.85

They look pretty smart .. especially for the price ... just waiting for my rechargeable batteries to charge up to test them out ( ( buy 2 packs of 4 AAA rechargeables from boots and get a 3rd pack free .... current boots advantage machine offer gives 50 extra points per pack of boots batteries, and also 100 extra points if you spend more than £15 ... these are £7.99 a pack )

    For info:

    They take 4 AAA batteries.
Have built in power save to conserve battery power..
According to the manual, the maximum range is 5km on open ground ( as opposed to 3Km which is stated on the website and in the catalogue )
  • The Binatone 150's are in Asda priced at £14.99 for a pair or £19.99 for a quad pack.
    You're my wife now!!
  • anyone know if you can use these on board a cruise ship as they might be handy to keep track of the kids
  • You should be able to use them on a cruise ship as they use 446 Mhz which is a license free frequency. And is only capable of outputting 1/2 Watt of power so shouldn't cause much cross-channel interference.
