Help please! -stuck sofa bed and visitors coming

Our 20 year old sofa bed hasn't been unfolded since the last house move and it seems to have got stuck in the sofa position. It has a metal action. The bit at the front which says "Lift here" just won't lift out of the frame into the position where the first leg will fold out, IFKWIM.

I have tried WD40'ing the mechanism at the sides: no difference. It looks as if the problem might be that theere is a part of the mattress sticking out of the frame at the back - which is stopping the mechanism from having enough room to swing back so that hte front bit can come out?
If it is that i can't see how I can get it out - short of settign fire to the mattress:eek:.
Any ideas anyone please?????????? This could mean an expensive hotel bill....

Not the ideal soluton but if you've an idea of where it may be stuck a discrete slit at the back may enable you to manouver it out, it could then be sewn up with some industrial thread. Have you tried turning it upside down and giving it a good old rattle? Or even opening the cover underneath and have a good look, you may be able to staple it back on when youre done?

    Good Luck any way!

Thanks very much - I hadn't thought of looking underneath - that one will have to wait until DH comes home though as i dont' think I'd be strong enough.

There is usually a clip somewhere where you can lock the mechanism. The removal company probably put it on when they moved, because sofa beds are complete pigs for springing out and bashing you in the legs when you tip them to move them.

Thank you so much for that, too - do you have any idea where the clip might be? We lost the instructions ages ago and can't remember what make it was - I think it came from D H Evans which is now House of Fraser?
