Wow its great to get so many replies and opinions!

Since saturday have driven past there saturday afternoon (steady but not heavy traffic) and sunday morning and evening (dead) and this morning detoured on the way to work to check out rush hour traffic - there was very little - certainly not at all comparable to Alder Road or Bournemouth Road through Lower Parkstone.
I have to drive down Alder Road every morning so i wanted to check it wasn't like that where the house is... it isn't!

The park area is right next to the house so kids could go to that on their own without crossing the road, the school is also behind the house, so walking/cycling to school would not involve the main road.

The cat is already a house cat and has been for nearly four years so i can't see him wondering much, but a cat run might be a fab idea to let him out in summer without worrying - and have seen the Secura Cat so if he did start to wonder we could get that in.

My parents have lived in a cul de sac for 20 years and the cat got run over TWICE (once by my brother!) - so whilst i know there's higher chance on a through road, i also know that it can happen anywhere.

I used to live in a flat looking over a high street in London. I got used to the noise but I certainly never got to like it.
