Chest of drawers on castors

I know this is a funny request but bear with me.

I do not want high wardrobes that are immovable. I have converted an old airing cupboard into a wardrobe by putting up a hanging rail and this is adequate for our needs. I live in a GF Flat which backs onto fields and we seem to have every spider going making webs so I am constantly moving furniture to irradicate these throughout the flat. Cobwebs also. I remove as many spiders that I can but due to the air vents in the walls they soon reappear.
I am in desperate need of some deep drawers for storing woolies, shirts, blouses etc and I would love to find some sort of storage system which in on castors that I could move easily so that I can hoover behind and clean etc. Is there such furniture on the market? I hate high immovable furniture and love the idea of easy to move storage that can come with me if/when I move. I feel the same way about my cooker (if only it was on castors that I could move more easily to clean under)
Also a reason for lower storage options is that I can clean the tops more easily instead of having to climb on ladders etc to reach. I hope im not coming across as some obsessive cleaner but I do like to keep dust etc at bay.
I am open to using things that might not neccessarily be conventional furniture per se. Most of my clothes are stored in plastic containers at present but I would like to have good quality wooden storage with deep drawers that hold a good amount. Hubby hates flat packed rubbish with flimsy drawer bottoms that seem to sag or break after a few months so thats a no no
Thanks in advance

As you hate flimsy furniture would it be worth going to your local second hand shop or look on freecycle for solid furniture that you could do up yourself? I'm sure castors can be bought quite easily from most DIY shops and this would more likely be cheaper in the long run too.
  • Yes I have been checking local second hand shops but the problem is I would need at least 2 possibly 3 sets of drawers to match to fit along one stretch of wall as I would like them to look good and I can only find the odd ones. But I take on board that I could possibly put my own castors onto the base hadnt thought of this, so thankyou

If you Google "furniture castors" you will find a huge selection of companies supplying castors. I made several storage units, years ago for my wife's doll houses. I fitted all of them with ball castors and they were all very mobile. So basically all you need to find storage units that you like, and screw your own castors to the bottoms so as to make them mobile.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Try Ikea. Office/ study furniture may give more options.

if you choose sturdy second hand units you could always stain or paint them same colour to tie in to a colour scheme. IKEA sell castors which you can add on. good luck!

I have some Alton's furniture in my bedroom; bedside cabinets & a chest of drawers. They came with castors attached for manoeverabilty. The chest of drawers has a lovely very deep drawer at the bottom.

It's well made furniture, not the cheapest, but built to last so worth paying that little bit extra in my opinion.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • where can I find out about Altons furniture sounds just what i am looking for?
