Market knowledge

How to be updated on markets (I'm interested in index-tracked at the moment), apart from reading a forum like this and some other websites?

What I found is Yahoo - the week ahead.
Are there similar articles that do market analysis as well?

thank you

The business section of the BBC News website along with the detailed financial news on Citywire should keep you fairly informed of the high-level issues. If you want very detailed and specific company news, you'll need to go elsewhere, but if you're just interested in the major issues that's probably a good start.

    Thank you, they are good.
yes I'm interested in the main issues - my profession doesn't give time to deepen the subject at the moment.

If I can ask a further question, is there any finance program on freeview channels (Like bbc news, skynews, etc.)?
and what about common newspapers (and their sunday edition)?
someone was suggesting the Investor's Chronicle, but maybe it is for experts.
    thank you
  • I'm just starting out in the game, but finding thisismoney.co.uk the best source of information at the moment, as it's a very simple layout and got some fantastic information available. Also they've got a section where they group together all the share tips/analysis from the various newspapers on a daily basis, which may be of use.

I read the Investor's Chronicle (paper and website versions). III runs news feeds etc, and I'm on there and ADVFN regularly to track my investments anyway. Digital Look is fairly decent for specific information.

I've also started using Google Finance, which is actually a pretty good system:

There's also a Google Finance gadget if you use the iGoogle homepage:

    thank you

Ideally we would need a markets thermometer. Is there anything like that somewhere?

Under the portfolio list are a line of buttons, the first one is a graph box with a green plus. Click it and the add/edit option drops down. You can delete entries, move them up and down the order or add entries there. Once you've made your changes, click the graph box with green plus again to save and close.

No idea re: the thermometer, have a browse through google gadgets - that's how I found the stocks one.
