when will I hear from 3rd party insurers?

Was very silly just over a fortnight ago.Overtook a parked car.Too late I realised car coming other way.Although I managed to stop, other driver didn't.Thank goodness just damage to cars, though police did attend.I did not admit liability at the scene.
My car damage was minor and though I have notified my insurance I will not be making a claim on my insurance.
Other car had I think more damage and driver very shaken, but have heard nothing from their insurers/solicitors.I am fairly sure other driver did not own car so unlikely to have comprehensive insurance.
What is the time frame on these sort of things, if and when am I likely to get a call from 3rd party and am I likely to get a due care and attention summons off police.

It's possible the third party is leaving it all to his insurers to deal with (ie making a claim off his own insurer - named drivers have comprehensive insurance if the policy they are named on is comprehensive). If so you may hear nothing from the third party for some time, but expect a claim to come through to you from the third party for any uninsured losses (excess, out of pocket expenses etc). Should this arrive, pass it on to your insurer to deal with.

In this case the insurers may communicate with each other, and your insurers may have enough info from you already for them to accept liability, and deal with this. If not they will contact you for more details.

This could take some time, weeks (maybe months), rather than days.

Should the third party wish to deal direct with you/your insurer (ie not make a claim on his own insurance), then they have up to 6 years to claim from you.

There is no way of knowing what action is likely from the police - have you given a statement, or been cautioned to make you think you will be summonsed?

Thanks for the info.Guess I'll have to wait a while as I suspect 3rd party or solicitor will be contacting me direct.
Police took statement-not under caution and said they would have to pass on to HQ as 3rd party was blaming me.I think they didn't want to bother really.
By the way this my first accident 30 years.Pretty gutted but it could have been a lot worse.

I agree with Quentin and would add it can be helpful if / when you have an accident to take photographs of the damage to both cars, of any passengers, skid marks and road signs etc. Also note the names and dates of births of the driver and any passengers.

The above is very helpful if the other driver tries claiming for other damage or other passengers suddenly appear and put in claims for injuries.

If their are any independent witnesses make a note of their names and contact details
  • 3 years.

Take photos of damage to your vehicle, accident location etc.
