Hi y'all, I pay the whole amount off each month by DD.
That means it's up to them to make sure they take the money in plenty of time to clear. Doesn't it?
Granted it makes me a bit of a problem as I get paid on the last day of the month <ouch>. but at least I don't have to call them or do the transfer from a cybre cafe whilst I am abroad.

Just to add I pay lots of bills via my halifax online account and the tesco's takes the longest stupid as it seems you canpay it quicker with your switch card from same account.
I pay my Tesco card form my Halifax online account and it arrive 2 working days later (e.g. I pay on Monday and it arrives Wednesday) the same for other credit cards (except Halifax).

I never have this problem with other cards and I also dislike their limited online account that only gives you a balance and not a breakdown of expenditure but the 0%and points are nice !!!
If you get a Tesco savings account you can see full credit card details not just the balance.

That's strange, on the back of my statement it says you must allow 2 working days for a ph switch payment. This is the method I usually use and I must admit there aren't sometimes two working days before the payment is due, and I make a payment, but I have always been told by the operator that it is counted from the day you pay. I've never had a late payment charge but I'll be a little more careful in the light of this discussion

i have tesco visa card and clubcard plus - both administered for tesco by royal bank and i have a royal bank current account - direct debit to visa card takes 4 days to arrive!!!! but direct debit to clubcard plus arrives the next day - needless to say penalties for late payment only apply to visa card - i leave you to make your own mind up
  • I have a different credit card (NSPCC Bank of Scotland) but am getting annoyed with charges for late payment when they keep moving the date!! I set up my payment by standing order when I opened the account thinking the date they gave would be the same every month - not so! it has been as late as the 30th and as early as the 26th. I might think that they were deliberately trying to catch me out. I set up the standing order so I wouldn't have to think about it every month!!! gggrrrrrrr Have claimed back one lot of charges and am trying to claim back another.

OK, this is how Bank of Scotland (and other HBOS cards work). Your statement gets printed up on the Xth working day of every month. The according to which type of card you have, you have Y days until the payment is due. Say your bill gets printed on the first working day of the month, that could range up to 4-5 days (ie weekends, bank holidays dont count).

So you don't have much right to claim the charges back. Bank of Scotland have done nothing wrong.

Sounds like you would be better off setting up a Direct Debit then you would never be late.
  • Anyone had a problem with their credit card company keep changing the repayment date every month, sometimes by several days. Also what can you do if they do (apart from pay early) of course
