cheapish wedding - who do i dress and give gifts to?

So my budget is £4000 like many in here and i was doing fine, but the costs keep spiralling , I was wondering, for those on a bujet, who are you dressing?

Venue, food, entertainment, photo and rings is 3250 leaving 750 on a the rest including clothing.

My dress will be from landy and i'll be asking for vouchers for the next 2 birthdays and christmas, so my underwear and shoes are covered. I'm prob gonn spend 250
I'm not hving a bridesmaid (i ain't paying for someone else to look better than me!) but h2b is having a bestman. so they are gonna end up at 150 ish

But i have just realised i hve forgotten my dad. He isn't well off but do i have to make him match? Will it look silly if i let him wear wht he wants?

also gifts - i am paying for the wedding on my own and will be making everything myself. Do i have to buy gifts for the mums/ best man? Am gonna get peoples backs up if i don't?

to clothe them I am looking at 140
Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10:love:

I think you buy gifts to say thank you for them paying & organising a wedding for you, if you are doing it all yourself I don't see that you have to.

    EDITED, CONGRATULATIONS!

I don't think that you need to buy gifts for anyone else, it is your wedding, and people will know that you are on a budget.

The only people we are paying to dress are the flower girls and page boys (actually my mum and aunt want to buy the FG dresses, so not even that really)

Getting gifts for our mums to say thanks for everything, and for our FG's.

Not having Best Man/MOH because of it being such a small wedding, so don't have to worry about them (would have bought MOH outfit if I had one though). Our dads/brothers etc are all paying for their own kilt hire.

If you cut back a bit on the entertainment then you could free up more money towards clothing.

Ask your dad, H2B and best man to hire their suits - it will be cheaper than buying them, if they have lounge suits they will all look the same and be smart too.

If you aren't having bridesmaids and only a best man, it would be nice if you could give him a small present to say thank you, it neednt cost much.

We hired kilts and when hiring 2 we got the third free. So that was hubby, best man and dad sorted out with no fuss.

  • my an my fiance are paying for our own wedding - we are having 5 bridesmaids 2 ushers a page boy an best man - we will buy gifts for all these people (nothing special just a little thankyou as we are gettin all their outfits)
but we will be buying both sets of parents a present as a thankyou - even though they arent payin for our wedding without them it just wouldnt be possible so i think a little gift is the least we can do
have the best little boy in the world :j

Tomorrow never comes coz tomorrow is always Today

    :confused:Why Cant life Be Simple????
  • I think we will make nice framed wedding pix for them as gifts... LOL
  • I personally believe that if you ask someone to be in your wedding party, then you should clothe them, I wouldn't dream of turning round to my bridesmaids etc and saying 'can you do it, oh, but your dress etc will be £x'. We don't have a massive budget, but I have had to make room to accomodate outfits for 5 bridesmaids, 4 flower girls and 6 groomsmen!

I sorted presents for our mums (3 of them - I have a mum and a step mum) and I think Dh bought a bottle of whisky for the best man. The Maid of Honour got her dress as a present - it was a bargain in the sale and she'll be able to use it again so I don't mind too much :)
The presents for the mums I picked up from one of the larger jewelery chains in their sale - I bought them the willow range figurines that were on offer but portrayed a happy young couple (MIL promptly left hers on the train when heading back home after the wedding...) but both my mum and step mum have theirs proudly on display... They're not expensive but they both love them :)
Hire the outfits for the men - we didn't hire anything other than the best mans outfit (kilt etc) as hubby had bought his ( full kilt outfit and that included a custom made kilt that had to be weaved because it's a special license and no-one holds it in stock. Apparently his is the first kilt made in the tartan as far as anyone is aware...)
