The SanDisk picture on the Amazon website looks like the Kosher one, while the one on 7dayshop looks like a fake one (based on what the link to the how to spot a fake website said). I think I'll go with the Amazon one - probably more likely to get a refund if I have any problems with it.

With the greatest of respect, does anyone honestly beleive that the major sellers would sell fake items? 7 day shop would be included witihn that as well.

Also re pictures of items, you cannot possibly use a picture of an item that is on a website as an example of the item you will be getting. It's not like amazon get one package of memory cards in and carefully open one of them up and take a photo?!? It will most probably be a library photo that is used. Also, visual designs will likely change over time, but if the model is the same, no-one is going to keep changing the pictures!

I think you have to take a lot of this talk about fakes with a pinch of salt, a lot of it sounds like scaremongering to me.

Reading the link supplied about spotting a fake, I see that it states :
"There are actually original 1GB high speed one found in SLS... but the 2GB high speed one ALL ARE FAKES!!!! The original one for 2GB are actually non high speed one and are found in BOXES!!! (sandisk or sony is the same)"

This is absolute rubbish as SONY do produce a High-Speed 2GB card!

I agree with most of your post rattla, but you've misread the site on the last bit of your post and your quote is taken out of context - it is referring to sticks sold in a (super)store called SLS, the guy is saying that all the 2GB high speed sticks sold there are fakes. He doesn't say that Sony don't produce them. He also confirms they exist with this statement:

Sorry Luffy but you are talking out of your backside in every aspect and some of it is actually libellous.

The Sony 2GB one I had off eBay for £42 DID come with an adaptor and is 100% genuine. As is all the other Memory cards I've bought off various internet retailers.

You keep paying over the odds via the high street stores while we make our money go that much further.

Even the ones on amazon, ebuyer and whatnot will be fake, as they are so good even professionals can be tricked. Amazon probably dont actually sell them themselves (wonder why) but sell fake ones via their merchant system.

You have to wonder why you cant walk into Dixons or Argos or some high street store and buy a good priced 2gb stick, or buy them at all. They are simply not readily available. The abundance of online 2gb sticks therefore suggests they are not from Sony.

people on ebay - every single one will be fake. the seller may know, he may not know. 99.5% of game boy advance game on ebay are fake yet all the major sellers have huge feedback scores - because buyers either dont know or dont care due to lower price and give positive feedback. Same for the memory sticks.

Tell tale sign - with official memory sticks you get an adapter inside the plastic packaging, its not free, its included as part of the box.

With fake ones you will get the box and usualy the adapter will be added free (outside the box) or sold seperately.

My advice - do not buy memory sticks now, wait until real ones are in full circulation. 4gb ones are coming which will drive prices down. and buy from a real store where you can the item in person first, or which has a very solid returns policy. Keep in mind that 1gb sticks are going for £100, anything below that whether 1gb or 2gb should be examined and considered fake until proven otherwise.

I bought about 6 1Gb Memory Stick Duos over the past 6 months on ebay from HK sellers. All were genuine and work fine still.
I bought a 2Gb card from an online retailer for about £42 and it was also genuine.
Not sure how you can say all cheap ones are fake.

Actually you can get postage for 0.99p if you pick certain items. Or wait for a offer which comes regularly of late.

Amazon.co.uk sells 2gb sticks at £137. With a dispatch date of 1-2 WEEKS which means they are not holding stock. and I remember being unable to find them only recently so they might be a more recent addition. But still £100 more than you guys are paying on eBay and who knows where else.

Smaller online retailers use various suppliers from various places. It would be very easy for them to unknowingly buy fake ones and sell them. There is no way they can buy them so cheap in order to sell them on so cheap unless they were somehow dodgy. How can they possibly undercut the price by £100?

If I am wrong, please direct me to the proof so I might order one, rather than get all defensive. I did not say all sub-£100 are 100% fakes, but should be considered with the possibility in mind and fully investigated before purchase. Which imo is the soundest advice in this thread. For the record I do not buy any of them and will not do so until I find a reputeable seller selling proven genuine sticks - and that won't happen until the sticks are in full circulation. Which is simply not the case despite what you guys claim.

That is my logic. There is a reason why ebay and HK along with a handful of smaller online sellers are the number one source for memory sticks above 1gb and thats because the circulation of genuine memory sticks is very limited right now. Makes you wonder. How are you guys so confident yours are so genuine?

Do they come with Sony/Sandisk warranties? The adapter inside the box? My info could be out of date, these fakers seem to be very quick to update their methods. My advice still stands to any prospective buyer. Wait for the 4gb+ sticks to really flood the market (driving prices down) and invest in a stick of your choice from a respected seller.

Amazon are currently selling the 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo model MSN-MX1GN for just £37.61. This is the latest super-fast chip, not the older slower one. The description given by Amazon matches the new chip, but the photo is of the old one.
I know there are loads of these "genuine" chips available on ebay for about £25, but from reputable sellers these should be about £70-£90.
This means you can get 2GB of super-fast storage on two 1GB chips for about £75 - seems pretty good price to me for genuine memory.
Anyone think Amazon has made a mistake and put up the wrong photo, or made a mistake and put up the wrong description?
All will be revealed when mine comes in a couple of days time
