Help!!! banks on my back

hi everyone i have a few posts here already... i have a current account overdrawn past my overdraft & a credit card which i have stopped paying since i lost my job... they are now sending me warning letters telling me they will hand my debt over to a debt collection if i dont get in touch.... i was told that i should put a claim in for the charges ... should i still offer what i can with an SOA and see what they say and put in my claim separately?

thanks for the help guys!!

  • Have you at least gone to get help from someone like CCCS? Before you tackle this creditor.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
  • First open a basic account with another unreleated bank and get everything paid in to the new account and deal with the old account after.
At least they wont be able to swallow your money when it goes in and you can arrange repayment within your budget.

Just out of pure idle interest, but who would this creditor be ...?

the bank has not told me who they will be handing the debt over to so i don't know...
  • Yes but did Debtline offer you any constructive assistance? Offer to do anything for you on your behalf like CCCS normally does? Such as going through your budget, allocating a token payment per month, issuing template letters to your creditors, what you can reasonably afford. As long as you are paying them something they are also accepting that payment. Even if it's £1, it still shows your willingness to pay them. That's why I suggested now going to the CCCS. Before you proceed any further. For your own protection, nothing else.

No, creditor IS the bank. Not the DCA. I asked because plenty here will know how to respond, deal with them. It's okay if you don't want to but I can hazard a guess it's the one with the blue sign out the front of the bank? With a certain white motif? ;)

I second that advice. It is worth more than you can imagine to have an organisation like CCCS on your side.

Look, it's easy. They have a freephone number. Phone them Monday, explain to them the situation, then they will make an appointment with one of their counsellors who will go through everything with you like I mentioned before. Let CCCS tell you what you can reasonably afford from your budget info. Now, it's likely they are pretty snowed under - because I was told by an operator there last year they had to open or get more staff due to the financial crisis, more demand etc - but the sooner you make contact etc. Because it can take a few weeks before a counsellor can get back to you. But they phone you at a time suitable to you usually. So you know you'll be in when they do.

Oh, yes, I know. Why as Nargleblaster said, having them on your side is better. The other thing is creditors are more likely to behave once they see CCCS has got involved.
