How to use old ntl box to get freeview?

Just decided to get the sky plus deal that sky are doing at the moment and decided to change phone and broadband at same time. Called up ntl and they gave me a great price of 2meg bb for £12.50 so decided to stay.
The girl on the phone told me I could keep the ntl box and use it in a spare room to get freeview. I have plugged it into my bedroom but it does not seem to be doing anything. I have plugged it via scart into the back of my tv but the little led welcome screen on the box stays static saying nlt and will not load up. Any ideas anyone???

Have you plugged the cable wire into the NTL box? Not the scart or power lead, you should have another lead. Screw in type.
  • That is attached to my wall downstairs do I need a longer cable to reach upstairs then? Sorry I am probably being thick!!!

Yes.....Either a longer cable or another wall mounted box in your bedroom to run the cable from.

I thought NTL would have informed you as to what you need to do to run two box's.
  • They simply told me I could keep the box and they would put a free credit on my account as I will no longer be paying for any ntl channels. What type of cable would I need and where can I get such a thing?
    many thanks for your help.

If you will no longer be paying NTL for any channels, why do you thing that buying a cable so that it will reach upstairs will achieve anything?

There is no such thing as NTL Freeview!
