London Theatre and Dinner Recommendations

Options
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good show and somewhere decent to eat in London for me and my girlfriend in April?
I dont want to pay a fortune but would like something that we will both enjoy.
I know there are a few sites that have offers on dinner and a show for reasonable price but I dont know if the places are any good or the seating. Can anybody suggest any sites or places to try?

I spend most of my time on this site recommending Bistro 1 as a good place to east in London. Click here for their website which includes their menu. They do mediterranean food generally and I find that a 2 or 3 course meal plus a bottle of wine does not cost too much at all. The Beak St branch is handy for The Palladium, The Dominium and The Piccadilly Theatres. The Frith ST and Brewer St branches are handy for theatres on Shasftesbury Avenue, and the Southampton St branch is handy for Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Fortune Theatre, Savoy Theatre, Lyceum Theatre & Royal Opera House. They do tend to squash the tables close together but I've always really enjoyed meals there, found the food good value and the service very friendly.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

Hairspray is a great show and I would thoroughly recommend it, Jersey Boys is great whether you love the Four Seasons or not. Phantom is a classic that I will never tire of watching.

There are plenty of serious dramas on offer but I prefer a good sing-song! Saw La Cage aux Folles last night and had a bloody good time.

have a look at https://www.whatsonstage.com for good dinner & show offers.

I tend to book with them as you end up gettign a 2 course meal thrown in for the proce of a ticket.

I would agree and say Phantom is a must see, I also loved Les Mis and Blood Brothers. You can always have a look at what 2 for 1 vouchers are featured on Martin's e-mail. We have used a couple of Asks in London and a Pizza Express (but that wasn't as good actually).

Agreed, but whilst there are good deals the seats are generally not the best.

Hairspray and Wicked are both excellent.

Pasta Brown in Covent Garden is nice, friendly staff and yummy food, good if you want something quite informal. It is just off the piazza and is opposite the Opera house x

London Eating or Top Table both have offers on restaurants throughout London/UK, with reviews. I have booked tables on deals with both without problems. If you need a quiet table/check your reservation has gone through you can ring the restaurant ahead of your visit, which I do now and again.

Depends on what type of show you want to see, but there are discount tickets on the day from http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/tkts/ at Leicester Square (be prepared to queue). Not always guaranteed to see the show that you want, so have a few in mind if you go ahead with this. Other alternatives are lastminute.com who do cheap meal and theatre deals, mainly during the week.

If your visit is quite a while away, sometimes the theatres themselves have good deals. The ambassador group have great deals on tickets now and again, if you register for emails to be sent.

Have a great time in London!
  • Porters is a good English restaurant - close to all the theatres. They do a pre-theatre menu (cheaper, and gives you enough time to eat before). Usually packed the the weekends. You can also email them, and they post you out a card for 10% off.

  • i also use westendtheatre.com as they seem to have quite a lot of theatre and dinner packages. i did one for thriller live recently and got a free meal.

If you are treating the girlfriend I recommend 2 Michelin 1 star restaurants which will set you back about £17 per head plus service charge & drinks.

People think Michelin Star restaurants are expensive but they are not. The star is awarded only on the basis of the cuisine on the plate not the service or decoration etc. Michelin use a Knife & Fork rating for that.

Suffice to say these establishments get booked up quick.

    Arbutus, 63-64 Frith Street, SOHO

Wild Honey, 12 St George St, Mayfair

If not fussy on the show just go to the half price ticket booth in Leicester Sq on the day and buy your ticket then.
