Please see Criceto's post below, I think these figures are outdated now. Sorry

    I think it's 657

'Between all of the automated systems, 4711 near-Earth asteroids have been discovered including over 600 more than 1 km in diameter.' (Wikipedia)

And this is an old article, but has that exact figure - 'Between March 1998 and February 2001, LINEAR covered almost 500,000 square degrees of sky and discovered 657 near-Earth asteroids.'

Need someone with this issue of the magazine for a definitive answer though.

Do you have any idea how often I forget to stop texting when setting off on a dive? ;)
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

hahaha i know this is a bit of a strange prize, why have they included the amount of times you can hit the buttons? "the buttons have been engineered to be able to handle over 500,000 pushes" Its not like you would count it? Or would it stop working after you have pressed the buttons a certain amount of times? I dunno, i dont think i'll enter this one but good luck for all of you who do! Think of all that underwater talk u can have hahaha

that's so close to 765 I'd be tempted to go for that one now. I knew the figures I found were old that's why I mentioned it. Will edit my own post and direct people to yours. Sorry peeps.

So wait a minute there's over 700 asteroids over 1km in width poised to strike us at any moment?

Actually, why worry, it's always America they hit ;)
