Just got my Experian score - came back as 987!! Pretty damn good, so it MUST have been the incorrect details (single/tenant) on my Egg profile. Hopefully the message I've sent to them will reverse the decision.
I suppose if it doesn't, then at least I should be confident of getting elsewhere.
  • I've had the same problem nej - over 30k a year salary, homeowner, no other credit apart from an Egg credit card I've had for 2 years and paid off in full every month! And I was turned down for a loan of £1000!!! All my details are correct too. Checked my file, all ok, am on the electoral roll, and HSBC wouldn't give me a credit card either

    So

Did you check your credit file? If you have only one line of credit that might actually go against you.

I'm sure they just make up the decisions as they go...
  • Yep, file is all ok, had a 3k loan last year with HSBC which I paid off in full early after a few months and had a previoius c card, and have a mortgage and use my overdraft! I just dont understand.

Appealing Egg's decision, been on the phone over an hour now and still they havent decided!

I called to appeal, but they said I had to do it online. I sent a message and got a reply the next day saying they'll get back to me within 72 hours.
  • I had that but then it said ring them up, I did and they said I had to write and expain why I wanted to appeal. I kicked off saying I already did that in the secure message and I'd cancel my egg card and then they could suddenly do the appeal over the phone!
  • I didnt have to appeal. I put the application through and had to wait 24 hours.

I phoned up within 30 minutes and was accepted for the 22k loan.

    Marvellous, Egg ARE good

I got a message back last night saying to call them, so I'll give them a ring this evening and update if I learn anything new...

    Hi

This must be egg I think. My fiance was also turned down (even thought he'd had a loan from them before, had paid it back and never defaulted). He's in the same situation as OP earns over 40k, no debts, never defaulted etc. They just seem EXTREMELY picky. He requested his credit file from both experian and equifax and they cam eback fine. He wrote off to them several time, never receiving an explanation.

    Seems like a mystery

Well, I spent AGES on the phone with them last night, going through their appeal process, detailing all my incomings and outgoings, including my wife's, and at the end of it worked out that it was easily affordable. The guy then said it looked Ok and he went off to the person that actually makes the decisions (he said if it didn't look Ok then he would have declined it himself on the spot). Half an hour later and he calls back and says it's been declined again...

Oh well, guess I'll have to try Cahoot or someone instead!
