Fraud on credit card help?

Options
recently my credit card was misued with charges mounting over 3k!

i reported it to the authorities and they are investigating.

i dont know how much my genuine balance is so i i didnt do payments to my card for the last 2-3 months.

they said fraud charges will be reversed after investigation but its been over 2-3 months investigating and im afraid i cant make paymens regulary because i dont know my real balance.

will this effect my credit score for missing payments?

  • Have you had a statement?
Can you look online to see the transactions?
Have you had a declaration from the credit card company asking you to confirm which transactions are fraud?

Not wishing to sound sarcy but I have a reasonable knowledge of how much I spend on a card each month so surely you must have some idea of what is genuinely owed?

You can at least pay the minimum amount but I don't think you will suffer long term damage if it can be proved that you have suffered as a result of fraud.

after being a victim of fraud i was advised to make at least the min payment while the investigations were on going
  • Unfortunately, the investigations and chargebacks for fraudulent transactions can take weeks, if not months, to resolve. The timescale rules between card issuers and transaction acquirers are really quite lengthy.

As others have said, simply pay the minimum amount for the moment. And once they've refunded the transactions (I would assume backdated) any additional payment you've made over the minimum for your "real" balance should reduce your capital.

  • Hi, this happened to me, i told the credit card company and they asked me to send in proof of my id which i did.
they have been great re credited my account with all the funds that were used, and it has had no effect on my credit rating. they have noted it was used fraudulently.

i contacted them and told them that i cant afford the min payment as it was too high from my regular minimum payments.

For any of the transactions that where fraudulent the card provider should not charge interest on these transactions therefore the min payment that you should be charged would then be on your balance prior to these transactions going through plus any new spending by yourself.

As far as effecting your credit ratings, basically if you do not meet the min payment then that will go down as a missed payment and will affect your rating.

Get back on the phone and speak to your providers fraud dept and demand that they no longer charge you interest on these transactions plus you want credit to the card for any payments of interest that you should not have paid.

  • you need statements & you can get copy statements.

As you had balance on the card you really should do min pymnts each month.
