Di3004 PPI

Hi chaps and chapesses, just a quick thread to say thanks to people like Di3004 who is always a constant support to people on here regarding PPI and bank charges..
Something I'd like to add for all you guys making claims:
Follow the template letters and be strong with your complaint - be accurate with it too, ie: you HAVE been mis-sold rather than you THINK or FEEL that you have been mis-sold. Banks do not pay out on people feeling mis-sold, they only payout on people that have been mis-sold.
Don't go into depth about personal circumstances surrounding the "purchase" and if a bank writes to you asking you loads of questions, its because they want information from you because they don't have anything. Do not give them answers on things that are besides the point and IF they make a claim that it was sold correctly, request the evidence that they have in order to support that claim - ask them how they are able to reach that outcome if they do not have any evidence to support that statement etc..
Also, calculate your entitled amount. No good complaining with perfect letters if they come back and offer you 10% of the true worth, so you need to know what you're truly entitled to receive and ONCE they make an offer, it is as good as an confession to mis-selling, so you know are entitled to the lot, not just a token amount - if they are in the wrong, then how can only 50% of a payout make any sense????
If they tell you that only the last 6 years can be recovered, then this is NOT true. What is likely to be true is that they won't hold paperwork on your accounts older than 6 years from now, but that does not mean that you are not entitled to the PPI from whenever your account was first started. Again, for loan accounts, do the maths (turboman is the maths man on here). Add the interest(s) and in your letter to them, put it to them that this is how much they owe you and break it down. If they do not agree, request a break down from them showing you where you're wrong and where they are right. Credit cards are harder to work out, but the principle is as follows:
Opened account say 2000. Max Credit Limit £1,000. 78p per £100 PPI ratio. Statements on your account only available from bank from 2003. SO, 3 years of non statements - what to do?
Well, you know that PPI was administered on the account from the outset (2000) at the said ratio so calculate the maximum possible PPI spends that the credit limit allows for the 3 years (2000-2003) and request this payment along with the statement PPI figures (2003-2009). If they cannot come up with paperwork to counter those early calculations, then they will have to bite the bullet.
Get your facts right though first!!! The letters to you will often mention a goodwill gesture. This is another way of saying "have the money, but you won't get an apology" - who cares right? Money talks, they can keep their principles, their worthless to you anyway - its not a personal thank you you're looking for, it's a business transaction put right.
Good luck to all that claim but make sure you get all that you are entitled to.

And always read your letters again after you've finished them. Always use spellchecker because it makes a better impression on you if you use the correct grammar and spelling.
And be careful about what you put in your letter, for example if you say "I have been mis sold because I didn't know I had it and I was told it was compulsary"; So, if you were told it was compulsary then you knew it was there because you knew you had to have it right? Just think about what you are writing and make sure it makes sense.0 -

Hi mate, I thought for a second you were taking the pi*s out of my post !!!
But yes, absolutely - get your facts right when you do it!!!! So important not to contradict yourself - ignorance can be bliss at times, but it doesn't often win cases unless there is great proof to show the misleading done from the other side too in order for you to have been ignorant of certain elements at the time.0 -
