Do you think £2 per day is about right for a PAYG electric meter....?

For one person, in a flat, running an electric shower, hot water heater, one storage heater, laptop and broadband router, phone charger, kettle he never uses, occasional burst of fan heater (he is a student) telly, lights, (camera, action, lol)

OH thinks it is excessive, compared to our quarterly bills, (bigger house, two people)

I really don't know.

Any other PAYG meter users out there?

Sounds very reasonable for all electric.

    £2 per day x 30 days = £60 month .. yikes, that is a bit high

On saying that ... the storage heater uses up a lot and so will a fan heater

We only pay £20 per month (sometimes £25-£30 in winter) for our electric and thats a 2 bed terraced with dg, gch, 1 full time worker, 1 part time worker

Edit to add - Ours is a PAYG meter as well and we're with EON

£2 a day for all electric with storage heater, electric shower and immersion heater sounds good to me - completely different if it was a flat with gas heating.

Thanks all...electric panel heating he leaves off, one storage heater in the bedroom always on, gas fire in the living room and gas cooker. We put fifty quid on the Gas meter when he moved in six months ago, and there is still £34 on it. The fire is brand new, but he never sits in the front room, so hardly uses it. And he is a student..so he never cooks.

    That's what OH thinks.

We pay about ninety a quarter for our electric. We have oil heating, so are only using washing machine, telly, lights, the usual electrical stuff, but not heating rads or water (apart from kettle)

I know the unit rate is higher on PAYG, but £60 a month does seem excessive..thats £180 per quarter. I was wondering if there was a fault with the meter...!

    Edit: With ScotPower

    Thanks

It's always worth ringing ScotPower up and asking if he is paying someone else's debt on the meter (it could be happening)

We're paying £60.00 (direct debit) a month to Southern Electric. We've got a 3 bedroom terrace but don't normally have two of those rooms heated. I'm dreading receiving my electric bill next week because we've had such a cold winter and I'm sure we'll owe them money. My Gas bill (hob only) is only £3.00 a month.
  • With no gas heating/cooking I would say £2 electric a day on pre pay is about right to cover all that.
