The jobcentre website and the local papers are not coming up with any jobs that don't ask for experience....even factory packing jobs....I mean, how long would it take to learn how to do that? It must be that with all the redundancies there must be a pool of experienced workers who can fill these positions. I have more varied work experience than my OH so it might well be easier for me to get a job and have him look after our dd. *sigh*

The biggest recruitment drive round my way was for "Thanet Earth" - huge glasshouses growing tomatoes etc. They advertised for 25 staff lately and about 600 people applied, for a job which was advertised as "tedious and repetitive". :D If a job described that way is getting so many applicants then the job market really must have shrunk!

IMO you should focus on settling into your new frugal life, keep looking for work you actually want to do for a few months and don't get involved with some drudge job which will depress you initially. If after a while needs must and you feel it would be of benefit to get more money by doing a job you don't like then go for it. But just have a bit of time to catch breath and give yourself a bit of headspace to figurre out what you both want first. You don't sound like the kind of people who lack motivation or ambition so you won't be years on the dole or anything - just regard it as the safety net it is and take advantage of it for a little while.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Also - have you got money for move, deposit, moving costs etc and are you sure you will get all your deposit back (see housing board for sneaky tricks by some landlords to keep deposit).

But it is good that you are thinking laterally.

  • I am going to try to get some viewings booked in for this week. I will get some things advertised to sell (TV, dvd player, tumble dryer etc) and try to feed us from what I have left in the cupboards and freezer...quite a lot actually, maybe just need to get some fresh veg.

I am so stressed out by all of this though feeling quite positive and not down in the dumps but mega stressed. My dd is going through a whingy clingy phase  so trying to research our options on the internet was becoming impossible so I have resigned from that task and asked my OH to do all the searching for properties etc I'll phone to make the apps and go along to give my opinions ;) If only normal life could be put on hold at times like this. I have let the house get a bit, well, in need of a clean:o, so I had better sort that out today.

I actually am really looking forward to packing stuff up.

Good for you! You know, these things can be a positive experience (when baby stops screaming anyway ;) ). You will probably end up in a nicer, bigger place, possibly with a garden for your little one to run around in, where you could grow a bit of veg etc.

At least, that's how I'm coping with the idea of repossession lol. :D

  • Im sure if you put your thinking cap on you can come up with lots of ideas that will cut back on out goings.
Get rid of your tumble drier and use an airer - summer weather is coming up so it should be ok to dry clothes
Try to stretch each meal you make - bulk out your meals with lentils ect
Check out all the benefits you are entitled to and claim for them all
Get out in the sun (while its about!) the sun on your face will brighten your mood when in the darkest of places!
Try going to the supermarket later on in the day and grap the woopsie deals
Clean, paint and tidy your current place so you should get all of your deposit back
Do you have family you could stay with in the interim period until you both get jobs?
