    You usually pay half rent over the summer if you won't be in the house!

    Hopefully, the intellectual cream of UK youth will realise they need to work out the total rent they pay for the year and not worry about whether july/august is free/half price /full price etc if that means that they more per month in the other period... work out the total yearly cost..
    Essentially student lets commit you for the full period so that's the only cost that really matters... the rest is spin.

    well if it's £250 a month (as my boyfriends is) surely you'd rather pay half price than full price for it over summer?
    i don't think landlords in manchester have a choice about increasing the rent to make up for these months, no one would choose to live there because there are so many other properties!
    withington, rusholme, fallowfield and didsbury are FULL of student places!
