Card Payment debit time

A card payment did not debit my account until eighteen days after the purchase of 2 prescription items, can I dispute an overdraft charge of £25.00 my bank wants to apply to my account because of the length of time from purchase date to debit date?

No you can't as it's not their fault. It's the retailer that decides when they put the transaction through.

Bought an item in November one year, didn't leave account til March.

no not really as you should have budgeted for the payment as they can take a debit card payment any time ive personally had them taken 4 months after purchase

To echo the above, no - it's not the bank's fault, it's up to the shop you bought the goods from.

More to the point, the situation is no different: you are expected to run your account, and you should know that money is spent - whether it shows on your account or not.

Would OP question how long it had been to debit his account if he had issued a cheque? I guess the answer would be no so I agree that the bank has done nothing wrong and OP should learn to budget and accept responsibility for their actions.

Thanks for clarifying that folks, in my defence I would like to add That I did n fact budget for the payment, I then received my Feb salary and re-bugeted for March which included a few big utilitiy bills. I just think it's a bit 'off' to be told that u will be getting a £25.00 charge applied at the end of March for being £14.20 overdrawn because streamline and nat west (the chemist's bank) didn't communicate with each other and lost all card payments made from feb 22nd for two and a half weeks.
I would also like to add that your quiite right I would not have question a cheque payment as we all know that the point of sale is not electronic and therefore does not usually debit your account in the way electronic paymnets are with in 24hrs

I think the merchant can debit the payment anything upto 6 months so you need to remember the transaction until it debits. regardless of why it didn't debit is irrelavant(sp) unless it goes outside the period they are allowed.

    6 years - not 6 months!

I really have to doubt this - who said this?

We're talking about probably hundreds of millions here.

the manager of the chemist himself phoned me and explained what had happened when I made the enquiry he even went on to say that people were ringing him up saying they had not visited the shop on March 10th when the point of sale was charged
